Robot University is an interactive installation that is available to the public to experience through the facilities at QUT’s The Cube. This $230 million facility is home to the first Digital Writing Residency grant awarded to Christy Dena.
This project was created for Australia’s first Digital Writing Residency. It was pitched for the residency by Christy Dena, as an issue that people will be affected by in the future. It was funded by the Australia Council for the Arts and Queensland University of Technology (QUT). The grant, for $35,000, was to create a site-specific interactive work at QUT’s The Cube. The Cube is a $230 million Science and Technology center. It involve using multiple touch-screens and motion-senses to create a work for visitors of all ages to experience and enjoy.
We were responsible for bringing the robot characters to life. Collaborating with the concept artist and designer, we were able to develop these 3D robot models to a high standard. We then took it a step further and animated the robots to bring them to life with motion. We also worked on layout and lighting. We were involved from the beginning through to project completion.
