Time moves on so fast and here we are in 2014.
A couple of weeks ago we sat down to think about how 2013 had gone and how we were going to make sure that 2014 goes even better.
We grew a lot in 2013, in a team and as individuals. We worked on a whole heap of projects, we worked on a bunch of different platforms and with some really great people on projects we enjoyed a lot.
We felt we’d done really well in 2013, not that there weren’t some problems, and by analysing these strengths and weaknesses we were able to come up with a plan for moving forward.
Our weaknesses were;
- Use of social media – Expect to see more action on our blog, twitter and facebook including unity tutorials, game and biz dev discussions, and tips and tricks that we’ve found really useful.
- The website – We were trying to make it do too many things and it had too many pages. From now on streamlined with an aim to draw clients to the most important page, our previous projects!
- Our contracts – They were really too basic and left out a lot of important details. We’ve drafted a new one now and we’re feeling much better about it.
- Ignoring arts opportunities – There are so many council and state funded grant opportunities for interactive art and we love Ar, Vr, motion input, and fun, so we’ve been fools for not putting our hats into the ring.
- Underestimating the time we have to spend not working on contracts
- Using free or basic services that didn’t cut it – The website and our SVN servers were good examples, the were ok but not as fast as they need to be for optimal performance. This year we’ve transitioned to VPS hosting which allows us more speed and self management of subversion, its trickier but much faster.
So now that we’re here its all about embracing our passion to ensure that 2014 is the year of the cactus!
